The HERTEL 72024102 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metal machining operations. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers consistent diameter accuracy at 0.2410 inches across a range of materials. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks or collet holders, and the 6-flute right-hand cutting configuration provides smooth material removal with controlled chip flow. At 6 inches overall length with a 1.5-inch flute length, this reamer is well-suited for through-hole and shallow blind-hole finishing where tight tolerances are required. Machinists and tool-room technicians are the primary users.
This chucking reamer is used in manual and CNC machining setups for reaming drilled or bored holes to a finished diameter of 0.2410 inches. Typical applications include production runs on lathes, knee mills, and machining centers where hole diameter consistency and surface finish are critical. It is appropriate for general-purpose ferrous and non-ferrous stock removal where HSS tooling meets the speed and feed requirements of the operation. No special coolant passages are present, so flood or mist coolant applied externally at the cutting zone is standard practice.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in any drill press, lathe tailstock, mill, or CNC machining center equipped with a chuck or collet holder accepting a straight-cylindrical shank at the 0.2410-inch diameter range.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with reaming feeds, speeds, and fixturing. Power down the machine spindle and verify zero rotation before seating or removing the tool from the chuck or collet. Reaming requires a pre-drilled or bored pilot hole slightly undersized — never attempt to ream from solid stock. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain surface finish quality.
