The HERTEL 72017809 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed to finish-ream drilled or bored holes to a precise 0.1780-inch diameter. Machined from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this reamer delivers clean, accurate hole tolerances in a wide range of workpiece materials. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in a drill chuck or collet for reliable concentricity. With a 4-1/2-inch overall length and a 1-1/8-inch flute length, it is sized for light finishing passes in close-tolerance production and maintenance machining work. Installation and use are handled by machinists and tool-and-die professionals.
This reamer is well suited for precision finishing operations on machined components in job shop, production, and maintenance environments. The 0.1780-inch diameter places it within the 0.1500-to-0.1999-inch decimal inch range, making it appropriate for small-hole reaming applications where tight dimensional control is required. It is intended for right-hand cutting rotation and is compatible with standard drill press, turret lathe, CNC machining center, and manual milling setups that accept a straight-cylindrical shank.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in any machine tool that accepts a straight-cylindrical shank, including drill presses, lathes, milling machines, and CNC machining centers requiring a 0.1780-inch finish reamer.
Chucking reamers should be installed by a qualified machinist following standard machine-tool procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Secure the shank firmly in the chuck or collet to minimize runout, as excessive runout will degrade hole tolerance and shorten tool life. Always apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material and feed at a reduced rate relative to drilling to achieve the designed finish diameter.
