The HERTEL 72016405 is a high-speed steel (HSS) chucking reamer designed to finish-ream drilled or bored holes to a precise 0.1640-inch diameter. The straight flute geometry and right-hand cutting direction make it well suited for through-holes and shallow blind holes in a range of workpiece materials. At 4.5 inches overall length with a 1.125-inch flute length, the tool fits standard drill chucks and collet holders used on drill presses, CNC drilling centers, and manual lathes. The bright, uncoated finish is standard for general-purpose HSS reaming applications. Six flutes provide a smooth finish and even chip distribution through the cut.
This chucking reamer is used in machining and precision hole-finishing operations across job shops, maintenance shops, and production environments. It is appropriate for sizing holes in metal components where tight dimensional tolerances are required. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard Jacobs-style chucks and collet systems. Typical applications include finish-reaming pilot holes, dowel pin holes, and bearing bores in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where the 0.1640-inch nominal diameter falls within the 0.1500 to 0.1999-inch range.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in any drill press, CNC drilling center, or lathe equipped with a chuck or collet capable of holding a straight-cylindrical shank in the 0.1640-inch diameter class.
Chucking reamers are installed by machinists and toolmakers in machine tool spindles. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing or seating the tool in the chuck or collet. Use proper cutting fluid or lubricant appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve bore finish. Never use a reamer to remove excessive stock — pre-drill or bore the hole to within a few thousandths of final diameter before reaming.
