The HERTEL 72016256 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed to bring bored or drilled holes to precise finished dimensions. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this reamer delivers consistent cutting performance in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It measures 0.1625 inches in diameter with an overall length of 4.5 inches and a flute length of 1.125 inches. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks or collet holders. With 6 flutes and right-hand cutting direction, it produces smooth, accurate bores suited to close-tolerance work. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians are the typical users of this tool.
This chucking reamer fits horizontal and vertical machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes where a floating or rigid reamer holder is used. It is sized for small-diameter finish reaming applications, particularly in precision parts, fixtures, and assemblies requiring tight hole tolerances. The 0.1625 inch diameter places it within the 0.1500 to 0.1999 inch decimal inch reamer range. Chucking reamers are installed by machinists or tool operators in a machine spindle using a drill chuck, collet, or floating reamer holder — ensure the shank is fully seated and the holder is properly tightened before operation. Always ream a pre-drilled or bored hole that is undersized by the appropriate stock allowance for the diameter; do not attempt to ream a hole at full size from solid material. Power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling. Follow shop safety practices and applicable OSHA machine-guarding requirements when operating rotary cutting tools.
