The HERTEL 72015357 is a high-speed steel (HSS) chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metalworking applications. With a cutting diameter of 0.1535 inches and a 4-inch overall length, this reamer delivers tight-tolerance bore finishing in drill press, lathe, and CNC machining operations. The straight flute geometry and bright uncoated finish make it well suited for finishing softer ferrous and non-ferrous metals where chip clearance and surface finish are the primary concerns. Four flutes provide a stable cutting action, and the right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional clockwise spindle rotation. The straight-cylindrical shank seats cleanly in standard chucks and collets without additional tooling adapters.
This chucking reamer is used in machine shop and production environments where drilled or bored holes require final sizing to a close tolerance. Typical applications include bearing seat finishing, dowel pin hole preparation, and any operation where a drilled hole must be brought to a precise finished diameter. It is intended for machine use rather than hand reaming and is installed in a drill press, lathe tailstock, or CNC spindle by a machinist or tool-and-die technician. The 1-inch flute length suits shallow-to-moderate depth finishing passes.
Designed as a machine chucking reamer for use in drill presses, engine lathes, turret lathes, and CNC machining centers equipped with standard drill chucks or collets accepting a straight-cylindrical shank at the 0.1535-inch diameter class.
Machine chucking reamers must be run at reduced spindle speeds compared to drilling — consult applicable speeds and feeds references for HSS reamers in the specific workpiece material before operation. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout is within acceptable limits before cutting, as excessive runout will degrade hole size accuracy and tool life. Always apply a suitable cutting fluid for the workpiece material to control heat and improve surface finish. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle completely before changing or adjusting tooling.
