The HERTEL 72009905 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed to finish-ream precision holes to a 0.0990 inch diameter. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers consistent bore quality in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks or collet holders. With four right-hand cutting flutes and a 0.875 inch flute length, this reamer removes minimal stock while holding tight diameter tolerances. It is suited for machine-fed reaming operations on a drill press, lathe, or CNC machining center where hole finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority.
This chucking reamer is used in light machining and precision hole-finishing applications across metalworking, toolroom, and maintenance environments. The 0.0990 inch diameter falls at the upper end of the 0.0500 to 0.0999 inch decimal-inch range, making it appropriate for small-bore work in instrument components, hydraulic manifolds, and precision fixtures. A licensed machinist or tool-and-die technician typically selects this tool when a drilled hole requires final sizing to close tolerance. The 3.5 inch overall length provides adequate reach for most bench-machine setups without excessive overhang.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for machine-fed applications; compatible with any drill press, lathe tailstock, or CNC machine equipped with a chuck or collet holder that accepts a straight-cylindrical shank at this diameter range.
Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the reamer from the chuck or collet. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank with adequate grip depth to prevent pullout under cutting load. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to promote surface finish and extend tool life. Allow the reamer to reach full spindle speed before engaging the bore, and feed at a consistent rate to avoid chatter or oversize conditions.
