The HERTEL 72008451 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed to finish-ream drilled or bored holes to a precise 0.0845-inch diameter. Machined from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this reamer delivers consistent hole sizing and smooth surface finish in a wide range of workpiece materials. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks and collet holders. With 4 right-hand cutting flutes and a 0.75-inch flute length, it removes minimal stock while holding tight dimensional tolerances. It is suited for machine-shop use in manual mills, drill presses, and CNC equipment running at controlled feeds and speeds.
This reamer is intended for close-tolerance through-hole and blind-hole finishing operations in production and job-shop environments. The 0.0845-inch diameter falls within the 0.0500 to 0.0999-inch decimal-inch reamer range, making it appropriate for small-bore work in precision components such as pins, dowels, and fastener clearance holes. The 3-inch overall length provides adequate reach for shallow workpieces without sacrificing rigidity. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals typically select this tool when a drilled hole requires a final pass to achieve press, slip, or locational fit.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in drill presses, milling machines, lathes, and CNC machining centers equipped with drill chucks or collet systems accepting a straight-cylindrical shank of this diameter class.
Chucking reamers are installed by machinists in machine tool spindles — ensure the machine is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully into the chuck or collet and confirm runout is within acceptable limits before cutting. Always apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve finish quality. Do not use a reamer to remove excessive stock; pre-drill or bore the hole to within a few thousandths of final size before reaming.
