The HERTEL 72004559 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed to finish-ream close-tolerance holes in metalworking applications. Ground from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers consistent bore sizing at 0.0455 inches diameter without the added cost of a coated tool. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks or collet holders. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 0.5-inch flute length, this reamer is built for short, precise cuts in thin-section or shallow-hole work. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional machine setups. Weighing 0.15 pounds, it is lightweight and easy to handle in production or maintenance environments.
This reamer is suited for machine shop, toolroom, and maintenance-repair-operations (MRO) use where a small-diameter finished bore is required. The 0.0455-inch diameter falls in the sub-1/16-inch range, making it appropriate for instrument components, jig and fixture work, precision pin fits, and small mechanical assemblies. A licensed machinist or toolroom technician typically installs and runs this tool on a drill press, milling machine, or CNC machining center at controlled feed and speed.
Designed as a general-purpose chucking reamer for use in drill presses, milling machines, and CNC machining centers equipped with a standard drill chuck or collet holder sized for a straight-cylindrical shank in the sub-1/16-inch diameter range.
A qualified machinist or toolroom technician should install and operate this tool. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or removing the reamer from its holder. Use the correct spindle speed and feed rate for the workpiece material and hole depth — running too fast or feeding too aggressively in this small-diameter range can cause tool breakage. Cutting fluid is recommended to extend tool life and improve bore finish.
