The HERTEL 71206452 is a jobber length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and plastic. Manufactured from high speed steel with an oxide coating, this bit handles moderate heat and wear in production and maintenance drilling applications. It carries a wire gauge size of 28, corresponding to a decimal diameter of 0.1405 inches, and features a 118-degree standard point angle suited for flat and slightly curved surfaces. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks without adapters. At 2.875 inches overall length with a 1.75-inch flute length, it fits most benchtop drill presses and handheld drills. A two-flute spiral configuration evacuates chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling.
This bit is applied in light-duty metalworking, HVAC sheet metal, plumbing rough-in, and electrical trade work where small-diameter precision holes are needed. The right-hand cut and regular spiral geometry make it a straightforward choice for drilling ferrous and non-ferrous metals, thermoplastics, and wood composites. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust requirements at the point, which is useful when working in confined spaces or with underpowered drills. It is sold individually but requires a minimum order quantity of 12 units.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber length drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1405-inch straight-cylindrical shank, including benchtop drill presses, handheld drills, and drill drivers used in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trade applications.
A licensed or journeyman tradesperson should secure the bit firmly in a properly sized drill chuck before operation. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent rotation during drilling. Apply consistent feed pressure appropriate to the material — excessive force on small-diameter bits increases the risk of breakage. Replace the bit when point wear causes increased thrust, burning, or hole oversize.
