The HERTEL 7000078 is a left-hand indexable boring bar designed for internal turning and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. Built to the A-SWLP toolholder style, it accepts WP-style inserts secured by screw clamping, providing repeatable edge positioning and quick insert changes. The bar features a 0.93-inch minimum bore diameter and a 10-inch overall length, with a 3/4-inch shank diameter. Through-coolant capability is standard, supplied via a 1/8-27 NPT coolant hole, keeping cutting temperatures down and improving chip evacuation in deep bore applications. The body is constructed from steel and carries a neutral rake geometry with a -5-degree lead angle.
This boring bar is suited for precision internal diameter work in production and job-shop environments. The left-hand configuration positions the cutting edge for specific approach directions on horizontal and vertical turning centers. The 0.93-inch minimum bore makes it appropriate for relatively tight bore entries while the 10-inch OAL provides reach for deeper workpieces. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC operators working in metalworking, mold making, and general machining will find this bar applicable across ferrous and non-ferrous materials depending on insert grade selection.
Designed for use with WP-style indexable inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 5/32-inch insert thickness, following A-SWLP toolholder geometry standards.
Installation and setup should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators with the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state before tooling changes. Ensure the shank is clamped securely in a properly sized 3/4-inch boring bar holder or turret pocket to the machine manufacturer's torque specifications. Connect through-coolant supply to the 1/8-27 NPT port using an appropriate fitting and verify for leaks before operation. Select insert grade and geometry based on workpiece material requirements; do not exceed the insert or holder manufacturer's recommended cutting parameters.
