The HERTEL 66694191 is a high speed steel jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge No. 20 (0.1610 inches decimal equivalent), designed for general-purpose holemaking in metal, wood, and composite materials. The 135-degree split point self-centers on contact, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on smooth surfaces. A titanium nitride (TiN) coating reduces friction and extends cutting life compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The two-flute spiral design with a regular helix evacuates chips efficiently through the full depth of the cut. This bit is classified as heavy duty grade and meets NAS specification standards.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling operations where wire-gauge sizing is specified. The 3.25-inch overall length and 2.125-inch flute length provide adequate reach for standard stock thicknesses. The straight cylindrical shank at 0.1610 inches diameter seats securely in standard three-jaw Jacobs chucks and keyless chucks on benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling setups. Right-hand cutting direction is the universal standard for conventional drilling operations. Secure the shank fully into the chuck and tighten before operation - partial engagement increases runout and can cause bit breakage at small diameters. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured before starting the cut; freehand holding is not appropriate for drill press use. Apply cutting fluid or cutting oil when drilling ferrous metals to preserve the TiN coating and extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use; a chipped split-point tip will produce oversized holes and excessive heat.
