The HERTEL 66693953 is a letter-size V jobber drill bit engineered for production and maintenance holemaking in metal and similar materials. Built from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended cutting life compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements, making it effective on both dedicated drill presses and handheld equipment. At 5 inches overall length with a 3-5/8-inch flute length, the bit handles standard jobber-length drilling tasks across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. This is a right-hand, two-flute design with a straight-cylindrical shank sized at 0.3770 inches.
Suited for general-purpose holemaking in industrial, mechanical, and trade settings, this bit fits standard drill chucks without adapters. The 0.3770-inch decimal equivalent of letter V makes it appropriate for through-holes, clearance holes, and tap-preparation applications where a precise diameter in the 0.3500 to 0.4000 inch range is required. Typical users include machinists, millwrights, HVAC fabricators, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians working with steel plate, structural members, or sheet metal assemblies. The heavy-duty grade designation indicates suitability for more demanding feed and speed conditions than standard jobber bits.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck or collet accepting a 0.3770-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Meets NAS specification designation requirements for applicable holemaking applications.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tradespeople familiar with drilling equipment and safe cutting practices. Secure the workpiece fully before drilling and ensure the chuck is tightened to the shank before operation. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines for appropriate spindle speeds and feed rates based on material type and thickness. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use, and replace the bit when point geometry is compromised to maintain hole quality and prevent tool breakage.
