The HERTEL 66693946 is a high speed steel jobber-length drill bit sized to letter U (0.3680 inches decimal), designed for general-purpose holemaking in metal, wood, and composite materials. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers required thrust force, making it well suited for production drilling without center-punching. A titanium nitride (TiN) coating increases surface hardness and reduces friction at the cutting edge, extending tool life in repetitive drilling applications. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard three-jaw drill chucks. Overall length is 5 inches with a flute length of 3.625 inches. This is a heavy-duty grade bit built to NAS specification.
The 66693946 is intended for holemaking operations in maintenance, manufacturing, and trade shop environments. The jobber-length geometry offers a practical balance of rigidity and reach for through-hole and blind-hole drilling in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar workpiece materials. The regular spiral and tapered web configuration maintain chip clearance across the full flute length. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional drill press and handheld drill driver use. Sold individually, this bit fits tool cribs, service vans, and bench shop setups where a reliable letter-size drill is needed on demand.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit for use in any drill press, CNC drill, or handheld drill driver fitted with a chuck sized to accept a 0.3680-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation is performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals using standard drill presses or handheld power drills. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before beginning the cut. Inspect the cutting edge for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the TiN coating is fully worn through at the point.
