The HERTEL 66692278 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed drilling in tough materials including hardened steels, stainless steel, and other abrasion-resistant alloys. Built to wire gauge size 51, the bit measures 0.0670 inches in diameter with an overall length of 1-11/16 inches and a flute length of 11/16 inches. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces walking on entry, minimizes required thrust, and eliminates the need for a center punch on most flat surfaces. A titanium nitride (TiN) coating extends cutting life and reduces friction. This bit is intended for use by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and metalworking professionals in production and maintenance environments.
Screw machine length drill bits are the shortest standard drill bit series, providing maximum rigidity and reduced deflection in confined spaces or when working in drill presses, CNC machining centers, or turret lathes. The compact overall length of 1-11/16 inches makes this bit well suited for drilling in tight clearance situations and for applications requiring precise hole location in metal workpieces. The heavy-duty grade cobalt construction with parallel web and web-thinned geometry makes it appropriate for production drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals where standard high-speed steel bits wear prematurely.
Designed as a standard screw machine length replacement drill bit for use in any drill press, CNC machining center, turret lathe, or hand drill equipped with a chuck accepting a 0.0670-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or metalworking technicians familiar with cutting tool safety. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before beginning a cut. Ensure the workpiece is firmly clamped before drilling. Do not exceed the recommended speed and feed parameters for the material being drilled; consult published speeds-and-feeds data for cobalt TiN-coated bits in the specific workpiece material.
