The HERTEL 66692237 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Sized at wire gauge 47 (0.0785 inches decimal), it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and cutting force at startup. The TiN (titanium nitride) coating extends tool life by increasing surface hardness and reducing friction. At 1.75 inches overall length with a 0.75-inch flute, the screw machine format provides extra rigidity for close-tolerance and high-feed applications. The web-thinned, parallel-web construction improves chip evacuation and reduces thrust. This bit is installed by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, maintenance technicians, and metalworking tradespeople working on ferrous and stainless materials.
This drill bit is suited for production drilling in materials that defeat standard HSS tooling, including stainless steel, high-strength alloys, hardened steels, and cast iron. The stub-length (screw machine) body makes it a preferred choice for drill press work, CNC machining centers, and bench drilling operations where rigidity and runout control matter. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. Right-hand spiral flute geometry works with conventional right-hand rotation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute for wire gauge size 47 cobalt screw machine drill bits in any standard drill chuck or collet accepting a 0.0785-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Install in a drill press, CNC spindle, or hand drill with a chuck rated for the shank diameter before applying cutting force. Ensure the chuck is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely clamped before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for stainless and hardened steels to extend tool life, as this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect cutting edges before each use and replace if chipping or dulling is visible, as running a worn cobalt bit at excessive feed can fracture the tip.
