The HERTEL 66691999 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed, close-tolerance drilling in metal and hard materials. Built from heavy-duty cobalt with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and heat resistance in demanding production environments. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch, reducing walking and improving hole accuracy. At 2-1/16 inches overall length with a 1-inch flute length and a 0.154-inch diameter, this stub-length bit offers added rigidity for drilling in tight clearances. It is sized to wire gauge No. 23 and suited for use in drill presses, CNC machines, and hand drills used by machinists and maintenance technicians.
This bit is a fit for production machining, metal fabrication, and maintenance repair operations where a short, rigid drill is preferred over jobber length. The screw machine length profile reduces deflection when drilling stainless steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and other hard metals. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard three-jaw chucks. Web-thinned geometry with a parallel web configuration reduces thrust load at the cutting edge, making it well suited for high-cycle production use in manual and automated drilling setups.
Designed as a standard screw machine length drill bit for use in drill presses, CNC drilling centers, and hand-held power drills equipped with a three-jaw chuck accepting a 0.154-inch straight shank.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine fully powered off and at a complete stop. Secure the straight shank firmly in a three-jaw chuck, verifying concentricity before beginning a drilling cycle. A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should follow applicable shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines when changing tooling. Do not exceed the recommended RPM range for the workpiece material and bit diameter.
