The HERTEL 66691858 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in tough materials. Built to a wire gauge size of 9 (0.1960 inches decimal), it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and requires no center punch on most surfaces. The TiN (titanium nitride) coating extends tool life by reducing friction and heat buildup at the cutting edge. At 2.25 inches overall length with a 1.1875-inch flute, this stub-length geometry provides rigidity in short-reach drilling applications. It is suited for machinists, millwrights, and maintenance professionals working in production or field environments.
This drill bit is used in screw machine and general-purpose drilling operations where a shorter, stiffer bit is preferred over jobber-length tooling. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters, making it compatible with handheld drills, drill presses, and screw machines. Regular spiral fluting provides efficient chip evacuation in ferrous metals, stainless steel, heat-treated alloys, and other hard materials where high-speed steel tooling would wear prematurely. The heavy-duty grade designation indicates it is built for demanding, repetitive cutting cycles.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or production-use drill bit for any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1960-inch straight-cylindrical shank, within the wire gauge size range of 0.1500 to 0.2000 inches decimal.
This bit is installed and used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and industrial tradespeople operating drill presses, CNC screw machines, or handheld power drills. Secure the straight shank fully in the chuck and verify chuck key tightness before operation. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so external cutting fluid or oil should be applied when drilling ferrous or hardened materials to manage heat. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace when point geometry is degraded to maintain hole quality and dimensional accuracy.
