The HERTEL 66691817 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in tough materials. Built to wire size 5 (0.2055 inches decimal), this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and requires no center punch on most surfaces. The TiN (titanium nitride) coating extends tool life by increasing surface hardness and reducing friction during cutting. With an overall length of 2-3/8 inches and a flute length of 1-1/4 inches, the screw machine length profile provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for drilling in tight spaces or on drill press setups. Right-hand cut with a straight cylindrical shank diameter of 0.2055 inches. Installed by machinists, tool and die professionals, and metalworking tradespeople.
This bit is designed for production drilling in ferrous metals, stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and other hard or abrasive materials where standard high-speed steel bits wear prematurely. Screw machine length geometry keeps the bit stiff under load, reducing deflection in CNC, turret, or bench drill press applications. The web-thinned, parallel-web construction improves chip evacuation and reduces thrust force. A regular spiral with standard fluting handles a broad range of metal drilling tasks without specialty setup.
Designed as a heavy-duty OEM-style replacement or production drill bit for use in standard drill press, CNC turret, and hand drill applications accepting a 0.2055-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should follow standard metalworking safety practices. Secure workpieces properly before drilling to prevent rotation under load. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being drilled to maximize bit life and finish quality. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace any bit showing signs of chipping or excessive wear.
