The HERTEL 62914346 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, it handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials while resisting heat and wear. The coarse-pitch, 5-flute spiral geometry produces a chip-breaking action that reduces cutting forces and allows higher feed rates compared to standard finishing end mills. At 1 inch in diameter with a 2-inch length of cut and 4.25-inch overall length, this tool fits standard milling machine and machining center setups where a 3/4-inch shank holder is used. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals rely on this geometry for roughing passes before finish profiling.
This end mill is suited for roughing passes in vertical mills, horizontal mills, and CNC machining centers. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute direction make it compatible with conventional setups. The coarse pitch is particularly effective in steel, alloy steel, and hard materials where chip evacuation is a priority. It is a single-end tool, meaning once the cutting end is worn it is not reversible, making proper speeds and feeds critical to tool life. It is not center-cutting, so plunge milling is not recommended with this tool.
Designed as an OEM-specification roughing end mill for use in standard 3/4-inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and milling machine spindles capable of accepting a 3/4-inch shank.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine fully powered down and the spindle at a complete stop. Secure the 3/4-inch shank firmly in a clean, undamaged holder to the holder manufacturer's specified pull-out torque range. This tool is not center-cutting and should not be used for plunge entry; use a ramping or helical entry path instead. Proper speeds and feeds for the workpiece material should be confirmed before engaging the cut to avoid premature tool wear or breakage.
