The HERTEL 62888805 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiAlN coating, this tool handles tough ferrous and high-temperature alloys where standard HSS tooling wears quickly. It runs a 1/2 inch cutting diameter with 4 right-hand spiral flutes in a coarse pitch configuration, producing a serrated chip-breaking profile that reduces cutting forces and allows higher feed rates. The 2 inch length of cut and 4 inch overall length suit typical side milling, slotting, and roughing passes in vertical mills and CNC machining centers. This tool is center-cutting, meaning it can be used for plunge entry as well as peripheral cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers and users of this tooling.
This end mill is suited for production and job-shop roughing operations where material needs to be removed quickly before a finishing pass. The coarse pitch geometry reduces chatter and heat buildup during heavy cuts in steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar materials. It fits standard 1/2 inch tool holders, collet chucks, and end mill holders used in both manual knee mills and CNC machining centers. The right-hand cutting direction and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional upcut milling as well as climb milling setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for standard 1/2 inch end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and Weldon-shank holders used in vertical knee mills and CNC machining centers.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in an e-stop or tool-change state. Torque the set screw or collet nut to the tool holder manufacturer specifications — do not estimate by feel on carbide or cobalt tooling. Inspect the tool shank and holder bore for chips or burrs before seating. Follow your shop safety program and applicable OSHA machining guarding requirements when operating rotating cutting tools.
