The HERTEL 62852629 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiAlN coating, it handles tough ferrous and exotic alloys where standard HSS tooling falls short. The 1/4 inch cutting diameter and coarse pitch geometry break chips efficiently and reduce cutting forces during roughing passes. The 3-flute spiral configuration with right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction provides a balance between chip evacuation and rigidity. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this end mill in manual mills and CNC machining centers for profile roughing and slotting applications.
This end mill is suited for roughing operations in job shops, production machining environments, and maintenance shops working with steel, stainless, and high-temperature alloys. The 1-1/8 inch length of cut allows for moderate-depth passes, and the 3/8 inch shank diameter fits standard ER and side-lock toolholders. It is not center-cutting, so it is not intended for direct plunge entry. Ramping or helical interpolation should be used when entering a closed pocket. The 2-15/16 inch overall length keeps the tool compact for rigidity in short-reach applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for standard 3/8 inch bore toolholders used in vertical milling machines and CNC machining centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Because this end mill is not center-cutting, avoid direct axial plunge cuts — use ramp or helical entry paths to begin pocket operations.
