The HERTEL 62748280 is a high speed steel (HSS) jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose holemaking in metal, wood, and composite materials. It features a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact, reducing walking and the need for a center punch. A titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating increases surface hardness and improves wear resistance, extending tool life in production drilling applications. The right-hand spiral flute geometry evacuates chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations. At 4.875 inches overall length with a 3.5-inch flute length, this bit fits standard drill chucks and most benchtop or handheld drill platforms used by machinists, maintenance mechanics, and trade professionals.
This drill bit is suited for heavy-duty holemaking in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and similar materials. The straight cylindrical shank accepts three-jaw chucks on drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling setups. The web-thinned, tapered web design reduces thrust force at the cutting tip, making it practical for drilling harder stock without excessive feed pressure. It is a single-piece, single-use-grade tool packaged individually and appropriate for shop tooling, field service kits, and production line use where a 23/64-inch hole diameter is required.
Designed as a jobber-series replacement drill bit for use in any standard three-jaw chuck accepting a straight shank, including drill presses, handheld power drills, and CNC drilling machines requiring a 23/64-inch diameter cutting tool.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the straight shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before drilling. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before operation. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the TiCN coating is compromised or the point geometry is degraded.
