The HERTEL 61699609 is a screw machine length drill bit in wire gauge size 32, equivalent to 0.116 inches in diameter. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, this bit delivers reliable performance in general-purpose drilling applications. The 118-degree standard point geometry provides a self-centering start without the need for spotting. At 1-7/8 inches overall length, the stub-style body is shorter and more rigid than jobber length bits, reducing deflection in tight clearance setups. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix handle chip evacuation efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling on ferrous and non-ferrous materials alike.
This bit is suited for use in machine shops, production drilling environments, and light fixture fabrication where a compact, rigid bit is preferred over standard jobber length. The screw machine format makes it well adapted for drill press and CNC turret applications where spindle clearance is limited. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw chucks and collet holders without modification. The 7/8-inch flute length at a 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip clearance in shallow to moderate depth holes. Licensed HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, and other trades using step-drill or specialty hole layouts will find this bit a straightforward shop consumable.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill bit suitable for use in standard three-jaw chucks, collet holders, and turret drill heads accepting a straight cylindrical shank in the 0.116-inch diameter range.
This bit should be installed in a properly secured chuck or collet before powering the drill press or CNC spindle. Confirm the shank is fully seated and the chuck is tightened before initiating a cut. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling hardened or ferrous materials to extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace if chipping or wear is visible to maintain hole quality.
