The HERTEL 61699310 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed drilling in metal, plastic, and general-purpose materials. Built from high speed steel with an oxide finish, this bit offers a 0.242 inch (Letter C) cutting diameter and a 118-degree standard point angle. The shorter flute-to-length ratio compared to jobber-length bits makes it well suited for rigid, close-tolerance drilling applications. It features a 2-flute regular spiral configuration with a straight cylindrical shank, and the right-hand cut geometry is compatible with standard drill chucks and CNC turret setups. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users of this style of bit.
Screw machine length drill bits are commonly used in production machining environments, turret lathes, and multi-spindle screw machines where reduced overhang improves rigidity and accuracy. This bit is rated for general purpose use in the 0.2000 to 0.2500 inch decimal inch size range. The 3xD flute-by-diameter ratio and 1.375 inch flute length support chip evacuation in shallow-to-moderate depth holes without requiring through-coolant capability. It meets ANSI specification standards and is sold individually.
Designed as a general purpose screw machine length drill bit suitable for use in manual drill presses, CNC turret lathes, and multi-spindle screw machine applications requiring a 0.242 inch diameter hole in the 0.2000 to 0.2500 inch size range.
Install and remove drill bits only after the spindle has come to a complete stop and power has been locked out per applicable machine guarding and OSHA standards. Secure the straight cylindrical shank fully in the chuck or collet to the recommended grip depth before beginning a cut. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for high speed steel tooling in the workpiece material being drilled. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point is damaged.
