The HERTEL 61699294 is a screw machine length drill bit sized to Letter O (0.3160 inches decimal equivalent) with a 118-degree standard point angle. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide coating, it is designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and plastics. The shorter-than-jobber overall length of 2-15/16 inches provides added rigidity, reducing deflection in production and screw machine work. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix handle chip evacuation efficiently. This bit runs with a right-hand cutting direction and mounts in any standard straight-cylindrical shank chuck. It is installed and used by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance trade professionals.
This drill bit is suited for benchtop drill presses, CNC drilling operations, turret lathes, and screw machine setups where a stubby, rigid bit is preferred over jobber length. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and 1-11/16-inch flute length make it appropriate for shallow-to-moderate depth holes in general-purpose shop applications. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or cutting fluid should be applied at the cutting zone when drilling ferrous materials.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill bit compatible with any standard drill press, lathe turret, or CNC spindle accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 0.316-inch diameter range. Conforms to ANSI specification designation for screw machine length twist drills.
Installation is performed by machinists and tool-room technicians. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a keyed or keyless chuck before operation, and verify runout is within acceptable tolerance for the application. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle completely before inserting or removing the bit. When drilling ferrous metals without coolant-through capability, apply cutting fluid externally to extend tool life and manage heat buildup.
