The HERTEL 61699195 is a screw machine length drill bit sized to Letter N (0.3020 inches decimal equivalent) and designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and plastic. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide coating for added lubricity and basic corrosion resistance, this bit features a standard 118-degree split-free point and a right-hand cut spiral flute configuration. The shortened screw machine length profile — 2.8125 inches overall — provides added rigidity over jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in close-clearance drilling operations such as drill press work, turret lathes, and screw machine setups. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics are the primary installers.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling where a stubby, rigid bit is preferred over standard jobber length. The 1.625-inch flute length accommodates typical hole depths in sheet metal fabrication, fixture building, and general machining. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard 3-jaw drill chucks across a wide range of drill presses, CNC machining centers, and handheld power tools. The oxide finish helps with chip evacuation and reduces built-up edge when drilling mild steel and similar ferrous materials. This is a single-piece per package item with a minimum order of 6 units.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose screw machine length drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a straight cylindrical shank in the 0.3000 to 0.3500 inch diameter range.
Install and remove drill bits only when the spindle is fully stopped and power is locked out per standard machine-guarding practices. Secure the straight shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck, tightening with a chuck key on all three jaws to prevent slipping under load. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling ferrous metals to extend tool life and improve hole finish. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace bits that show visible damage to avoid workpiece defects or chuck damage.
