The HERTEL 61699120 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and plastics. It features a 17/32 inch (0.5313 inch) diameter with a 118-degree standard point angle, making it suitable for a wide range of production and maintenance drilling tasks. Manufactured from high-speed steel with an oxide finish for added surface protection, this bit has an overall length of 3-7/8 inches and a flute length of 2-3/8 inches. The shorter-than-jobber body length improves rigidity and reduces deflection in drill press, CNC, and screw machine applications. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and toolroom professionals are the primary users of this bit.
Screw machine length drill bits are commonly used in production environments where a stiffer, shorter drill is preferred over standard jobber-length bits. The 61699120 is well-suited for use in drill presses, turret lathes, screw machines, and CNC machining centers where spindle clearance is limited or hole straightness is critical. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. This bit is appropriate for light to medium-duty drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals as well as thermoplastics.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill bit compatible with standard drill chucks and collet systems that accept straight-cylindrical shanks in the 0.5000 to 0.6000 inch diameter range, conforming to ANSI specification.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Ensure the drill press, lathe, or machining center is fully powered down and locked out before changing bits. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the chuck to the recommended engagement depth before operation. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow applicable shop safety procedures when operating drilling equipment.
