The HERTEL 61698619 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, plastic, and similar materials. It measures 9/32 inch (0.2812 inches) in diameter with a 118-degree standard point angle and a 2-flute regular spiral flute form. The high speed steel construction carries an oxide finish for basic lubricity and corrosion resistance. At 2-11/16 inches overall length with a 1-1/2 inch flute length, this stub-style bit fits standard drill chucks and provides increased rigidity compared to jobber length bits, reducing deflection in short-hole applications.
Screw machine length bits are a common choice in production machining, maintenance, and fabrication environments where hole depth does not require a full jobber length. The shorter flute-to-diameter ratio of 3xD makes this bit well suited for drilling through thin stock, sheet metal, and structural sections where a shorter, stiffer tool is preferred. A straight cylindrical shank seats in standard three-jaw drill chucks on drill presses, hand drills, and CNC turret machines. Right-hand cut geometry is standard for conventional drilling operations. This bit does not have coolant-through capability and is intended for dry or externally lubricated use.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill bit suitable for use with any standard drill press, hand drill, or CNC turret machine equipped with a three-jaw or collet chuck sized for a straight cylindrical shank in the 0.2500 to 0.3000 inch diameter range.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by a qualified machinist or tradesperson familiar with rotating cutting tools. Ensure the drill chuck is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely clamped or fixtured before beginning any drilling operation. Appropriate eye protection and chip guarding are required. Apply cutting fluid externally when drilling ferrous metals to extend tool life and improve hole quality.
