The HERTEL 48538144 is a threaded shank drill bit designed for precision drilling in low-tensile strength materials. It uses a No. 16 wire gauge size, equivalent to 0.1770 inches, and features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements. The 1/4-28 threaded hex shank allows secure, repeatable engagement in compatible drill holders without slippage. The high speed steel construction with an oxide finish provides corrosion resistance and adequate wear life for general-purpose production and maintenance drilling applications. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical tradespeople regularly use this style of bit for sheet metal, control panels, and light structural work.
This bit is suited for drilling low-tensile strength materials including mild steel, aluminum, and similar substrates common in HVAC equipment, electrical enclosures, and plumbing fixture installations. The short overall length of 1.25 inches and 9/16-inch flute length make it appropriate for confined or shallow drilling applications where a standard-length bit would be impractical. The 1/4-28 threaded shank mates with standard quick-change holders used in production environments and field service work. It is intended for right-hand cutting rotation only.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose drill bit for use with 1/4-28 threaded shank quick-change drill holders in standard production and field service applications involving low-tensile strength materials.
This bit is intended for installation by qualified tradespeople familiar with hand-held or stationary drilling equipment. Verify the drill holder accepts a 1/4-28 threaded shank before use. Secure the bit fully into the holder and confirm it is seated before applying power. Right-hand rotation only — do not run in reverse under load, as this can damage the threaded shank interface.
