The HERTEL 44839439 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention when cutting ferrous metals, stainless steels, and tough alloys. The coarse pitch flute geometry breaks chips efficiently and reduces cutting forces, making it well suited for hogging operations where stock removal rate matters. The bright, uncoated finish is appropriate for general-purpose use across a wide range of workpiece materials. Machinists and toolroom operators handling manual mills or CNC machining centers will find this tool fits standard 3/8 inch collets and tool holders without modification.
This roughing end mill is used in job shop, toolroom, and production machining environments where rapid material removal is the priority before a finish pass. The 1.125 inch length of cut accommodates moderate-depth slotting and peripheral milling operations. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional milling machine spindles. It is a single-end tool, so once the cutting end is worn, the tool is replaced rather than reversed. Typical applications include roughing steel, alloy steel, and similar ferrous workpieces on vertical milling machines and CNC machining centers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for 3/8 inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and set-screw style holders used on vertical milling machines and CNC machining centers.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended engagement depth and torque the retention mechanism per the holder manufacturer specification. Inspect the shank and holder bore for chips or burrs before seating to avoid runout.
