The HERTEL 44839009 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a TiCN coating, this tool handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials while maintaining edge hardness under heat. The coarse-pitch, 3-flute geometry breaks chips into smaller segments, reducing heat buildup and allowing faster feed rates compared to standard finishing end mills. With a 1/4-inch cutting diameter and 1-1/8-inch length of cut, it is sized for slotting, profiling, and roughing passes in small-to-medium workpieces. This tool is installed by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators.
This end mill is suited for production and job-shop machining environments where roughing passes precede finish milling. The 3/8-inch shank diameter provides rigid clamping in standard collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style tool holders. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction make it compatible with conventional CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. It is not center-cutting, so it requires a pre-drilled or pre-bored entry point for plunge cuts. Typical applications include roughing steel alloys, tool steels, and stainless steel where TiCN coating provides added lubricity and wear resistance.
Designed as a direct-fit roughing end mill for standard 3/8-inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style holders used on CNC machining centers and manual vertical mills.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and the tool holder is clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Tighten the collet or set screw to the tool-holder specification — do not over-torque. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping before beginning a cut.
