The HERTEL 44838928 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tool handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials with a coarse pitch flute geometry that breaks chips efficiently and reduces cutting pressure. The 1/4 inch (0.2500 inch) cutting diameter pairs with a 3/8 inch shank, giving it a sturdy cross-section relative to its size. Three right-hand flutes with right-hand cutting direction provide good chip evacuation in typical roughing passes. Installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals, this end mill suits manual mills, CNC machining centers, and knee mills running moderate to high feeds.
This roughing end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations where stock removal rate takes priority over surface finish. The center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry as well as conventional milling paths. With a 1-1/8 inch (1.1250 inch) length of cut and a 2-15/16 inch (2.9380 inch) overall length, it fits standard ER and end mill holders taking a 3/8 inch shank. The coarse pitch design reduces chatter during heavy roughing cuts in steel, stainless, and high-temp alloys where cobalt tooling is preferred over standard HSS.
Designed for use in manual knee mills and CNC machining centers accepting a 3/8 inch shank end mill holder or collet. No specific machine model compatibility was provided by the manufacturer for this part number.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolpath program is cleared before inserting or removing the end mill from its holder. Use a torque wrench on collet nuts and set screws per the holder manufacturer specifications to avoid slippage or runout. Inspect the shank and collet bore for chips or burrs before seating the tool.
