The HERTEL 44838746 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention when cutting ferrous metals and tough alloys. The tool measures 0.75 inches in diameter with a 2.5-inch length of cut and a 4.625-inch overall length. Four right-hand flutes with a fine pitch geometry break chips efficiently and reduce cutting forces during roughing passes. The bright, uncoated finish is suited for applications where coating adhesion to the workpiece is a concern.
This end mill is intended for roughing operations on mills, machining centers, and manual knee mills in job shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments. It is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals for slotting, peripheral milling, and pocketing where high stock removal rates take priority over finish quality. The 0.75-inch shank diameter matches standard ER and Weldon-style toolholders commonly found in these setups. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional and climb milling on most vertical spindle machines.
Designed as a standard 3/4-inch shank roughing end mill compatible with ER collet chucks, Weldon side-lock holders, and shrink-fit toolholders accepting a 0.75-inch shank diameter on vertical and horizontal milling machines and CNC machining centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before mounting or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder to the recommended engagement depth and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Because this end mill is not center-cutting, do not attempt direct plunge entry — use a ramping or helical entry path, or pre-drill the entry point.
