The HERTEL 44838621 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers increased heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The 3/4-inch diameter cutter carries four right-hand flutes with a fine pitch and a TiN (titanium nitride) coating to extend tool life and reduce friction at the cutting edge. With a 2.5-inch length of cut and a 4-5/8-inch overall length, this tool handles deeper passes while maintaining rigidity. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this type of end mill in CNC and manual milling machines for roughing steel, stainless, and other ferrous alloys.
This roughing end mill is suited for production and job-shop environments where rapid stock removal is the priority before a finishing pass. The fine-pitch flute geometry breaks chips aggressively, reducing heat buildup and chatter on ferrous metals. The 3/4-inch shank diameter matches the cutter diameter, allowing use in standard R8, CAT, BT, and ER collet systems commonly found in knee mills and vertical machining centers. The non-centercutting design means it is intended for peripheral and side milling, not plunge cutting. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional and climb milling operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit option for standard 3/4-inch milling chucks, collet holders, and end mill adapters used in vertical and horizontal milling machines.
Installation is performed by machinists or tool setters using standard end mill holders or collet systems rated for the 3/4-inch shank diameter. Verify the holder is clean and undamaged before seating the tool to the correct gauge length. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling per OSHA lockout/tagout requirements. This end mill is not suitable for plunge cuts due to its non-centercutting geometry.
