The HERTEL 42215 is an M35 cobalt screw machine length drill bit designed for drilling into hardened materials, heat-treatable alloyed steels, stainless steel, and titanium alloys. It measures 15/32 inches (0.4688 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 3.625 inches and a flute length of 2.125 inches. The 135-degree split point reduces walking at the start of a hole and requires less pressure to penetrate hard workpieces. The oxide straw finish provides mild lubricity and corrosion resistance. This bit is suited for metalworking professionals, tool-and-die shops, MRO operations, and machine shops requiring consistent performance in demanding materials.
Screw machine length bits are shorter than jobber-length bits, offering greater rigidity and reduced deflection in drill press, turret lathe, and CNC machining center applications. The HERTEL 42215 is well suited for production drilling in ferrous metals and exotic alloys where standard high-speed steel bits lose edge retention. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports efficient chip evacuation in short-to-medium depth holes through stainless steel, tool steel, and similar hard materials.
Designed as a replacement or production-stock screw machine drill bit for applications requiring a 15/32-inch diameter hole in hardened materials, heat-treatable alloyed steels, stainless steel, and titanium alloys. Fits any drill press, turret lathe, or CNC spindle accepting standard straight-shank bits in the 0.4500 to 0.5000 inch diameter range.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or metalworking tradespeople familiar with cutting tool selection and machine operation. Ensure the spindle and chuck are de-energized and brought to a full stop before inserting or removing the bit. Secure the shank firmly in the chuck to the full depth of the jaws to prevent runout. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to maximize tool life and surface finish quality.
