The HERTEL 42162 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in tough materials including stainless steel, hardened alloys, and other hard metals. Built from M35 cobalt steel, it delivers superior heat and wear resistance compared to standard high-speed steel bits. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and allows the bit to engage material with less feed pressure, making it well-suited for precision work on hard or abrasive workpieces. At 5.25 inches overall length with a 3.875-inch flute, it covers the full range of jobber-length drilling tasks. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without modification.
This bit is used in metal fabrication, mechanical contracting, HVAC sheet metal work, plumbing rough-in, and industrial maintenance applications where drilling into hardened or stainless materials is routine. It is a single-bit package intended for shop or field use. The right-hand cutting direction and regular spiral flute geometry suit general-purpose through-hole drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Electricians, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and millwrights commonly use cobalt jobber bits for structural steel, pipe flanges, and equipment frames.
Designed as a standard jobber length drill bit with a straight cylindrical shank compatible with any drill press, hand drill, or magnetic drill accepting a 13/32-inch round shank.
Installation of this drill bit is performed by machinists, metal fabricators, and licensed trade professionals including HVAC technicians, electricians, and plumbers. Secure the shank firmly in the drill chuck and verify runout before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or hardened alloys to extend bit life and prevent work hardening. Always wear eye protection and secure the workpiece before operation.
