The HERTEL 42141 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for drilling into hard and abrasion-resistant materials. Built from M35 cobalt high-speed steel, it carries a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact and reduces the thrust required to start a hole. The bit measures 7/32 inch (0.2188 inch decimal) in diameter with a 2.5-inch flute length and a 3.75-inch overall length. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw chucks. A straw oxide finish provides mild heat resistance. This is a heavy-duty grade bit suited for production or maintenance drilling where standard HSS tooling falls short.
The HERTEL 42141 is primarily intended for drilling stainless steel, hardened materials, and other work-hardening alloys that wear conventional high-speed steel bits quickly. It is well suited for maintenance technicians, fabricators, pipefitters, and HVAC or plumbing contractors who regularly drill through stainless fastener plates, structural members, or schedule pipe flanges. The right-hand cutting direction and regular spiral flute geometry work with standard drill presses and hand-held electric drills. Coolant-through capability is not available on this bit.
Designed as a direct-fit jobber drill bit for any standard drill press or hand-held drill with a three-jaw chuck sized for a 7/32-inch straight shank. Optimized for stainless steel and hardened material applications.
Secure the shank fully in a calibrated drill chuck before use and confirm the chuck is tightened at multiple key positions. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or hardened alloys to manage heat buildup and extend tool life. Wear eye protection and secure the workpiece firmly — cobalt bits operate at lower RPM than standard HSS bits in hard materials, so refer to a standard speed-and-feed chart for the workpiece material. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dulling is observed.
