The HERTEL 42115 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit designed for demanding metal drilling applications in professional shop and field environments. Built from M35 cobalt steel and finished with an oxide and gold coating, this bit resists heat buildup and extends cutting life compared to standard high-speed steel tooling. It features a 135-degree split point that starts on contact without a center punch, reducing walking on hardened or abrasive materials. The 16 mm diameter and straight cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard drill chucks. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators are the primary users of this tool.
This drill bit is suited for production drilling and maintenance operations in metal fabrication, HVAC equipment manufacturing, structural steel work, and general industrial applications. The regular spiral flute geometry and 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio promote efficient chip evacuation during through-hole drilling in ferrous metals, stainless steel, and other hard alloys. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional drill press and handheld drill use. Sold individually, this bit is appropriate for both single-use replacement and stocking in a shop crib or service van.
Designed for use in standard drill presses and handheld drills equipped with a chuck capable of accepting a 16 mm straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for drilling ferrous metals, stainless steel, and hard alloys where cobalt tooling is specified.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by machinists or qualified technicians familiar with proper speeds and feeds for cobalt tooling. Ensure the drill chuck is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely clamped before beginning any drilling operation. Coolant or cutting fluid is recommended when drilling hard metals to extend bit life, even though this bit does not include a coolant-through channel. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
