The HERTEL 42108 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for drilling through tough ferrous and non-ferrous metals in industrial and trade applications. Manufactured from M35 cobalt steel and finished with an oxide and gold coating, it handles heat and wear better than standard high-speed steel bits. The bit measures 13.5 mm (0.5315 inches) in diameter with a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and requires less thrust to start a hole. Overall length is 160 mm (6.30 inches) with a flute length of 108 mm (4.25 inches). The straight cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks. It is a right-hand cutting, two-flute design with a regular spiral suited to a wide range of metal drilling tasks performed by machinists, maintenance techs, and mechanical tradespeople.
This bit is suited for production drilling and maintenance repair operations where work materials include mild steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides sufficient chip clearance during deeper passes. It fits applications where a jobber-length bit is the standard reach requirement without the deflection risk of extended-length tooling. Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or mechanical tradespeople familiar with proper drilling speeds and feeds for cobalt tooling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and confirm the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the work material to extend tool life and improve hole quality.
