The HERTEL 42102 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit designed for drilling through hard metals, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys where standard high-speed steel bits fail prematurely. Built from M35 cobalt steel and coated with an oxide and gold finish, this bit holds cutting edge hardness under elevated heat generated by tough materials. It measures 11.5 mm (0.4528 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 5.59 inches and a flute length of 3.70 inches. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers required thrust, making it well suited for hand-fed and machine-fed drilling operations. Machinists, fabricators, and maintenance technicians install this bit in drill presses, CNC machines, and hand drills.
This bit is used in metal fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production machining environments. It handles ferrous and non-ferrous materials, with the cobalt construction making it particularly effective on hardened steel, cast iron, titanium, and stainless alloys. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. The regular spiral flute geometry provides efficient chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole applications. It is sold individually and intended for professional machining and fabrication use.
Designed as a jobber length replacement drill bit for use in drill presses, CNC drilling machines, and hand drills accepting straight cylindrical shank bits in the 0.4000 to 0.5000 inch (10.00 to 12.50 mm) size range.
Install into a properly rated drill chuck and tighten securely before operation. Secure workpieces with clamps or a vise before drilling to prevent movement and bit breakage. Use cutting fluid or coolant on the workpiece surface when drilling hard alloys to extend bit life, even though this bit does not have internal coolant-through channels. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dulling is observed.
