The HERTEL 4140646 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance holemaking in ferrous metals, stainless steel, and other hard materials. The 135-degree split point reduces walking at drill entry and lowers the thrust needed to start a hole without a center punch. A TiAlN coating improves heat resistance and extends tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The bit measures 4.00 mm (0.1575 inches) in diameter with a straight-cylindrical shank of the same diameter. The overall length is 3-17/64 inches with a 2-1/8-inch flute length. It is ground to Hertel Max Output grade for consistent performance in production and maintenance applications.
This drill bit is suited for metal fabrication shops, mechanical contractors, and maintenance technicians who need a reliable, coated cobalt bit in the 4.00 mm diameter range. The regular spiral flute and right-hand cutting direction make it compatible with standard drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held electric drills. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces cutting resistance, making it effective when drilling tough alloys or stainless steel plate. It is sold individually and is appropriate for both spot-repair work and light production drilling.
Designed as a jobber-series replacement or supplemental drill for any application requiring a 4.00 mm straight-shank bit in the 0.1500 to 0.2000 decimal-inch size range across standard drill chucks on drill presses, hand drills, and CNC machining centers.
Secure the bit firmly in the chuck and verify the chuck key is removed before starting the spindle. Use appropriate cutting fluid or cooling when drilling stainless steel or hardened alloys to preserve coating life. Follow shop safety practices and applicable OSHA standards for rotating tool use, including eye protection and proper workpiece clamping. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace if the point shows chipping or excessive dulling.
