The HERTEL 4140547 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for demanding holemaking in hard and abrasive materials. It carries a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) coating that extends tool life by improving heat resistance at the cutting edge. The split point geometry at 135 degrees reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust force, making it suitable for drilling without a center punch in many applications. Overall length is 2.5156 inches (2-33/64 inches) with a flute length of 1-29/64 inches. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard three-jaw chucks. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations. Installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working in production or field environments.
This drill bit is used in ferrous and non-ferrous metal fabrication, maintenance and repair operations, and light manufacturing environments. The 2.60 mm diameter (0.1024 decimal inch) places it in the small-diameter range, suited for precision holes in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar hard materials. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces cutting resistance and is particularly effective in higher-hardness workpieces where standard HSS bits lose edge life quickly. It is appropriate for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills with compatible chuck capacity.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any drill press, CNC machining center, or hand-held power drill equipped with a chuck capable of accepting a 0.1024-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Secure the shank firmly in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable tolerance for the application. Ensure the machine spindle is at a full stop before changing or inspecting bits. Apply cutting fluid or coolant appropriate to the workpiece material to manage heat buildup, particularly when drilling stainless steel or hardened alloys. Dispose of worn or chipped bits per shop safety protocols and do not attempt to resharpen TiAlN-coated flutes without proper grinding equipment.
