The HERTEL 4140364 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for demanding holemaking in hard and abrasive materials. Wire size 44, this bit has a decimal diameter of 0.0860 inches and an overall length of 2.125 inches. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces walking on entry and lowers the thrust force needed to start a hole. A TiAlN coating adds heat and wear resistance, extending tool life in high-speed or dry drilling applications. This is a right-hand cutting, heavy-duty grade bit suited for machinists, tool-and-die technicians, maintenance professionals, and production shops working with steel, stainless, and similar alloys.
The 4140364 is built for general-purpose and production drilling in metals where standard high-speed steel bits wear prematurely. The jobber-length flute of 1.125 inches provides a practical balance between reach and rigidity in a bench drill press, CNC machining center, or hand drill. Wire size 44 is a common choice for tapping pre-drill operations and close-tolerance work in small-diameter applications. The heavy-duty cobalt grade makes it appropriate for aerospace, automotive, and industrial maintenance environments where material hardness demands a more resilient substrate.
Designed as a jobber-length drill bit suitable for use in standard drill chucks, bench drill presses, hand drills, and CNC machining centers accepting a 0.0860-inch shank diameter.
Install in a chuck rated for the 0.0860-inch shank diameter and ensure the bit is fully seated and tightened before operation. Power down and de-energize the drilling equipment before changing bits. Follow applicable machine shop safety practices and OSHA general industry standards for rotating tool equipment. Do not exceed the recommended speed range for the material being drilled; excessive speed without adequate feed rate accelerates coating breakdown on coated cobalt tooling.
