The HERTEL 4140323 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for demanding holemaking applications in metal and hard materials. Sized to wire gauge 40 (0.0980 inches decimal), it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and lowers the thrust required to start a hole without a center punch. A TiAlN coating increases surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in ferrous materials and high-speed cutting conditions. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard keyless or keyed drill chucks. This bit is sized and built for machinists, millwrights, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals working in production or field environments.
This bit is well suited for precision holemaking in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and other hard or abrasive materials where standard high-speed steel bits wear prematurely. The jobber-length body balances reach and rigidity for general-purpose drilling in benchtop drill presses, CNC machining centers, hand drills, and mag-base drills. The right-hand spiral flute clears chips efficiently and works with standard right-hand spindle rotation. Web-thinned geometry reduces cutting resistance on entry, making it practical for both manual and powered equipment.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber drill replacement compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks accepting a 0.0980-inch shank diameter, for use in drill presses, machining centers, mag-base drills, and hand-held power drills with right-hand spindle rotation.
Installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool professionals using standard keyed or keyless drill chucks. Ensure the shank is fully seated and chuck jaws are tightened evenly before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to maximize coating life, as this bit does not support through-coolant delivery. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace when point geometry degrades to avoid oversize or out-of-round holes.
