The HERTEL 4140000 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit sized to No. 6 wire gauge (0.2040 inches decimal), designed for demanding holemaking in hard and abrasive materials. The bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust force compared to a standard 118-degree grind. A TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) coating increases surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in high-speed or dry-cutting applications. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard drill chucks without an adapter. At 3.75 inches overall length with a 2.5-inch flute, this is a general-purpose jobber geometry suited for production and maintenance work alike.
This bit is appropriate for metal fabrication, mechanical contracting, HVAC equipment work, and general industrial holemaking where a wire-gauge drill size is specified. The cobalt substrate and TiAlN coating make it well-suited for drilling stainless steel, hardened steel, cast iron, and other tough alloys that wear through standard HSS tooling quickly. It is sold individually and is used by machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and maintenance professionals who need a reliable wire-gauge drill in a heavy-duty grade.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber drill replacement for any standard keyed or keyless drill chuck accepting a 0.2040-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Fits within the 0.2000 to 0.2500 inch drill size range per the Jobber series specification.
Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a keyed or keyless chuck before use. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent rotation during drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless or hardened steel, unless process requires dry cutting where the TiAlN coating provides thermal protection. Follow applicable shop safety practices and personal protective equipment requirements for rotating cutting tools.
