The HERTEL 41120379 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance suited to tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 3/8-inch diameter cutter features 4 flutes with a coarse pitch geometry that breaks chips into smaller segments, reducing cutting forces and heat buildup during heavy roughing passes. The bright, uncoated finish keeps the tool general-purpose and ready for use without additional surface treatment. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators use this style of end mill for roughing slots, pockets, and profiles before finishing passes.
This end mill fits standard vertical milling machines, knee mills, and CNC machining centers that accept a 3/8-inch straight shank. The 3/4-inch length of cut and 2-1/2-inch overall length make it a regular-length tool appropriate for shallow-to-medium depth pockets and slotting applications. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional and climb milling setups. The coarse pitch is particularly effective in applications where chip evacuation is critical, such as aluminum, mild steel, and cast iron roughing.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for any milling spindle or collet system accepting a 3/8-inch straight shank.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC operators using an appropriate collet, end mill holder, or set-screw adapter rated for the 3/8-inch shank diameter. Ensure the spindle and machine are fully powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Confirm runout and tool projection against the programmed depth of cut before beginning a roughing pass. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines for feed rate and spindle speed based on workpiece material.
