The HERTEL 4006188 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable drill bodies that accept HPMT-style inserts. It carries Hertel's HP130D manufacturer grade and features a dual-layer PVD coating - TiAlN and AlCrN - engineered to extend tool life in demanding drilling applications involving steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpiece materials. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral cutting direction, a 0.4 mm corner radius, and an 11-degree relief angle. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces, making it a standard consumable replenishment item for machining operations.
This insert is suited for production drilling environments in job shops, manufacturing facilities, and metalworking operations where indexable drill tooling is used in CNC machining centers or turning centers. The HPMTGP designation indicates the GP chipbreaker geometry, which is a general-purpose profile appropriate for a range of feeds and depths in through-hole and blind-hole drilling. Technicians and machinists managing insert inventory will typically stock this part in multiples to support continuous production runs.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement insert for indexable drill toolholders that accept HPMT-style inserts with an insert size designation of 052804 and a 2.30 mm mounting hole.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and in a locked-out state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key as specified by the drill body manufacturer to achieve proper clamping torque - do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Confirm cutting direction orientation before resuming machine operation.
