The HERTEL 4006160 is a 2xD indexable insert drill designed for high-productivity hole-making in metal cutting applications. The body seats two indexable inserts compatible with HPMT125812-GP geometry and cuts with a right-hand, straight-flute configuration. The 1.5-inch drill diameter and 3-inch maximum drill depth make this tool well suited for production drilling where insert replacement is faster than regrinding solid tooling. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 1.5 inches in diameter and 3 inches in length, fitting standard toolholders without adapter sleeves. Through-spindle coolant is supported via a 1/4-inch threaded port at the shank end, helping with chip evacuation and heat management at depth.
This indexable insert drill is intended for use on machining centers, CNC lathes with live tooling, or manual knee mills where the spindle can accept a 1.5-inch straight shank. The 2xD depth-to-diameter ratio is appropriate for through-holes and blind holes in steel, cast iron, and similar workpiece materials. The body length of approximately 7.1 inches keeps the tool compact enough to minimize runout while maintaining adequate reach for most fixturing setups. Machinists and toolroom technicians working in job shop or production environments are the typical end users.
The 4006160 is compatible with the HID drill style and accepts HPMT125812-GP indexable inserts. It is designed for use in spindles or toolholders accepting a 1.5-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with CNC or manual machining equipment. Confirm the spindle is powered down and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before mounting or removing the tool body. Secure the shank fully in the toolholder to the recommended engagement depth per the toolholder manufacturer before operation. Verify insert seating and fastener torque on both inserts before initiating a cut.
