The HERTEL 4006154 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable insert drills in demanding metal-cutting applications. It features an 80-degree diamond shape with a HPMTGP chipbreaker geometry and a neutral cutting direction, making it suited for general-purpose drilling operations in steel and similar workpiece materials. The insert carries a dual PVD coating of TiAlN and AlCrN for improved wear resistance and heat management at the cutting edge. With an inscribed circle of 0.1654 inches (4.20 mm) and a corner radius of 0.0157 inches (0.40 mm), this insert delivers precise, consistent cutting geometry on each index. It is installed by machinists and tool-room technicians working in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and turning centers equipped with compatible indexable drill bodies.
This insert is intended for indexable drill tooling requiring an HPMT-style insert seat. It suits general-purpose drilling operations in production machining environments, including job shops and manufacturing facilities running ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The HPMTGP chipbreaker promotes effective chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole drilling cycles. The insert size designation is 042004, and the manufacturer grade is HP130D. Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine power locked out per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat and torque the clamp screw - do not over-tighten, as solid carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Verify insert orientation and cutting direction before resuming machining operations.
