The HERTEL 4006144 is a straight-shank indexable insert drill engineered for high-production hole-making in metal cutting applications. The body accepts two indexable inserts compatible with the HPMT156812-GP insert style, allowing fast insert changes without removing the drill from the machine. With a nominal drill diameter of 2.125 inches and a maximum drill depth of 6.375 inches, this tool delivers a 3xD depth-to-diameter ratio suited to rigid setups in CNC machining centers and manual boring mills. Coolant-through capability is supported via a 1/4-inch threaded coolant port at the shank end, helping flush chips and extend insert life during deep-hole cycles. Tool body material is steel.
This drill is intended for use in metalworking environments where large-diameter holes are required in a single operation without pre-drilling. Typical applications include job shops, OEM manufacturing floors, and maintenance departments working with structural steel, cast iron, and similar machinable metals. The 1.5-inch straight cylindrical shank fits standard ER and hydraulic chuck toolholders in that bore range, making setup straightforward on most CNC turning or machining center spindles. Right-hand cutting direction is standard. Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists following shop safety and machine guarding procedures.
Designed for use with HID drill style toolholders. Takes HPMT156812-GP indexable inserts. Fits toolholders accepting a 1.5-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the drill body. Confirm the toolholder bore matches the 1.5-inch shank diameter and that set screws or clamping mechanisms achieve adequate holding force for the feed rates intended. Verify coolant port connection at the shank end before initiating a coolant-through cycle to prevent uncooled dry running.
